On August 13, 2020 at approximately 12:08 p.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the area of 5th Street and I Street regarding a vehicle vs pedestrian collision that had just occurred. Officers arrived on scene and found an adult male pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. The driver of that vehicle had already fled the scene prior to officer’s arrival. The victim had sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital where medical personnel later pronounced him deceased.
The Sacramento Police Department Major Collisions Investigations Unit and crime scene investigators have responded to take over the investigation. Detectives will be conducting a canvass for witnesses and surveillance footage to gather any suspect information. The circumstances that led up to the collision are still under investigation.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
