On Saturday, March 21, 2009, Sacramento Police Department's Magnet Academy students will be competing in the first annual detective competition at Kennedy High School.
Twenty-four students from Magnet School Academies representing Grant, Hiram Johnson, McClatchy, and Kennedy High Schools will put their knowledge of law, crime scene investigation, search and seizure, interrogation techniques, and general police practices to the test. The competition will involve the reenactment of a real homicide case and challenge students to apply the appropriate techniques and criminal investigative tactics to handle the case.
Each three-person team will be awarded points for following proper procedures and solving the crime. The 1st place team members will be awarded a $100 prize, 2nd place will be given a $50 prize, and 3rd place team members will receive a $25 prize.
The contest, held at Kennedy High School, will begin at 9:00 AM and conclude at 2:30 p.m. A briefing of the actual homicide case, and how it was solved, will follow the competition. If you have any questions, please contact Sgt. Renee Mitchell at (916) 628-4055.
