Police Sergeant Honored For Act of Kindness

On Wednesday, April 8, 2009, Sacramento Police Sergeant Roman Murrieta will be honored by Natomas High School, at their School Board Meeting, for an act of kindness.

On Tuesday, March 3, 2009, Sergeant Murrieta observed a group of special needs students heading towards the corner of San Juan Road and Truxel Road.  A short time later, as he was patrolling back through the area, he observed the same group of students huddling together at the Save Mart, under shelter from the pouring rain.

With no end to the rain in sight, Sergeant Murrieta offered his assistance to these students in need.  Making four trips, storing wheel chairs in his trunk, Sergeant Murrieta safely transported all eight students back to Natomas High School.

The Sacramento Police Department is proud that he is being recognized for going above and beyond his regular duties.  Sacramento Police Chief Rick Braziel said, "Sergeant Murrieta is a wonderful asset to the community."  Sergeant Murrieta provided a much needed service to his community and one that the students of Natomas High School won't soon forget.  This is just one example of the good things police officers do everyday.
