On June 17, 1991, Sacramento Police Department responded to 1 Clauss Court on a homicide. The victim, 66-year-old Richard Jackson, died from blunt force trauma.
Early in the investigation, Carolyn Simmons was interviewed and believed to be a possible suspect. Detectives did not have enough evidence at the time to charge Simmons. In January 2009, Detectives received witness information indicating Simmons' involvement in the homicide of Jackson. Further interviews of other witnesses also confirmed that Simmons had involvement in the homicide. The investigation revealed that a possible motive for the homicide was robbery.
On April 14, 2009, at approx. 9:45 a.m., Detectives arrested Simmons for the murder of Richard Jackson. Detectives were able to make the arrest based on the witness statements, inconsistencies in the suspect's accounts of what occurred, and forensic evidence.
