The Sacramento Police Department has arrested two suspects who have been stealing from victims posting items for sale on Craigslist. Detectives are still investigating to identify and link other possible suspects.
On at least six occasions, from January through April 2009, the suspects contacted people selling cellular phones on Craigslist, and arranged to meet the sellers at 2841 Albatross Way. The suspect would then either grab the cell phones or somehow get the cell phone, run into the house and out the back. The victims would then realize that 2841 Albatross Way was actually a vacant house.
Detectives identified a group of suspects and made two arrests today. The suspects' names and photos are being withheld at this time pending follow up on additional suspects and verification that there are not any more victims. Detectives do believe that there could be more victims that never reported the incidents, and are urging anyone who was victimized in this way to contact Crime Alert. The suspects are described as male, Hispanics, 15-17 years old, 5'1-5'6, thin build, short black or brown hair.
The Police Department would like to remind people who are selling or buying items to always meet in a public place and to not go to private residences or rural locations.
The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to this crime to contact Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP or text in a tip by texting to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
