On Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department's Career Criminal Apprehension Team (CCAT) arrested David Denson for the April 10th murder of Dusty Vasquez. Denson was arrested without incident in San Leandro, California with the assistance of Oakland and San Leandro Police Departments.
On Saturday, April 25, 2009, the Homicide Unit arrested James Castillo for the April 24th murder of Leopoldo Velasco III. Castillo turned himself in at Sacramento Police Headquarters.
Homicide Sergeant Paul Martinson indicated that detectives have had an opportunity to work more cold cases due to the slow down of murders this year. The Sacramento Police Department has had six homicide cases this year in comparison to fifteen last year during the same time period. The experience, hard work, and dedication of the homicide investigators and CCAT team can be seen in the number of cases being solved and suspects arrested.
