Sacramento Police Homicide Detectives have arrested 49-year-old Susan Woods for the manslaughter of 25-year-old Fernandez Nunez. Woods is also being charged with negligent discharge of a firearm.
On Saturday, March 21, 2009, at 2:25 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to Altos and Eleanor Avenue on a large fight where gun shots had been heard. Officers arrived finding two victims in a nearby apartment complex. Nunez had been shot in the upper body and later died from those injuries at U.C. Davis Medical Center. The second victim had injuries to his upper body from being in the physical altercation.
At this time, Homicide Detectives believe that a fight started between two groups at the apartment complex. During the fight, Woods began to shoot her gun towards the direction of the fight. Woods was attempting to assist Nunez and his group. Woods unintentionally shot Nunez during the altercation.
Woods was arrested today at her residence in north Sacramento without incident. Woods also goes by the name Susan Ogburn. Victim Nunez would have turned 26 years old today.
