The Sacramento Police Department is working with Federal authorities to investigate an incendiary device that was located on the east side of the Sacramento Federal Courthouse.
On Sunday, May 17, 2009, at 4:47 a.m., Federal Protection Service personnel located a suspicious item on the east side the Sacramento Federal Courthouse and contacted the Police Department. The Sacramento Police Department's Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) responded to the scene and determined the item to be an incendiary device which is intended to cause a fire. The item was located inside a paper grocery bag. Further description of the device is not being released at this time. The item was rendered safe and removed from the area.
The Police Department obtained assistance on this investigation from the Sacramento City Fire Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Federal Protection Service, U.S. Marshals Service, General Service Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
