The Sacramento Police Department, in conjunction with our partners from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), and the Sacramento Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, will be conducting multiple DUI operations over the next five weeks to safeguard the lives of our graduating seniors and to promote traffic safety within the City of Sacramento.
There will be extra officers enforcing DUI related laws and we will be conducting four DUI/CDL checkpoints during this time period. What better way is there to celebrate the many accomplishments of our graduating seniors than to ensure they live beyond graduation?
The purpose of these operations is to remove DUI drivers from our streets and educate the driving public of the dangers associated with drinking and driving or driving while under the influence of drugs.
The Sacramento Police Department wants to remind our citizens to drink responsibly and use designated drivers. Citizens are encouraged to call 911 to report drunk drivers. Please don't forget - Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest.
Funding for these operations is provided by a grant from OTS, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The first operation will be on Friday, May 22, 2009. We will have extra officers conducting DUI Saturation Patrols over the holiday weekend. We will be conducting a DUI/CDL checkpoint in the East area of our city on Friday, May 29, 2009. Media is invited to attend the checkpoint and also ride-along with a DUI officer. Please contact Sergeant David Hargadon at 916-808-6069 if you have any questions.
