The Sacramento Police Department has seen a decrease in uniformed crime rates for the past two years of almost 15% despite hard economic times and overall staffing shortages.
Crime data is provided to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Uniform Crime Reporting Program on an annual basis. In 2007, the overall uniform crime rate dropped 6.8% in Sacramento. In 2008, a reduction was seen again in all crime categories except for homicides. Thus far in 2009, we have seen a significant drop in homicide rates.
The Police Department is pleased to see the drop in crime rates which have occurred with the deployment of more officers on patrol, an increased effort to provide current information to the community encouraging crime prevention and the reporting of crimes in progress, and the exceptional work from the employees of the Sacramento Police Department. Additionally, the Department has developed a crime response team that is deployed based on weekly evaluations of crime trends.
