On June 22, 2009, the Sacramento Police Department is hosting a seminar for law enforcement officers in the region to offer tools that will assist them in surviving the emotional toll and stressors associated with their job. Sponsorship for the seminar is being provided by the Sacramento Police Officers Association, SPOA Memorial Scholarship Fund, Health Net, and the Sacramento Police Department.
The Sacramento Police Department has recognized that it is essential to understand the stressors associated with work and the effects it has on the officer's personal lives. The Department has suffered too many suicides, divorces, and stress related health incidents to overlook the mental and emotional health of our officers. The Department and the community benefit from having officers who are emotionally healthy and ready to help others.
The seminar is presented by Doctor Kevin Gilmartin who is the author of a book dealing with emotional survival for those in law enforcement. Over three hundred officers from throughout the region will be attending this four-hour seminar.
