On May 22, 2009, The Sacramento Police Department, in conjunction with the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD), and the Sacramento Law Enforcement Chaplaincy began a five-week operation, targeting the safety of graduating seniors and educating the community on traffic safety.
The operation was grant funded and included multiple DUI check points, extra officers enforcing DUI related laws, and education of the driving public on the dangers of drinking and driving.
Between May 22, 2009 and June 21, 2009, the City of Sacramento reported ZERO alcohol related traffic fatalities; thus, ensuring the safety of our graduating seniors. During the five-week operation, a total of four DUI check points were conducted and eight DUI saturation patrols. There were 2,738 vehicles filtered through the operations with 354 citations and 93 towed vehicles. A total of 35 individuals were arrested for DUI. An additional 13 arrests were made for other charges.
The Sacramento Police Department is committed to the safety of our community. We want to remind our citizens to drink responsibly and use designated drivers.
