Fire a Smoke Screen for Murder

The Sacramento Police Department is investigating the murder of 44- year-old Keith Fessler.

On Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at 1:28 p.m., the Sacramento Fire Department responded to the 7400 block of Carella Way on a structure fire.  After extinguishing the fire, fire fighters located a dead body and contacted law enforcement.

The Sacramento Police Department's Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigation Units responded to the scene.  The Sacramento Fire Department Arson Investigators also responded to assist.

Thus far in the investigation, Detectives have confirmed that Keith Fessler resided in the house at the 7400 block of Carella Way.  Detectives believe the suspect (s) took the victim's car, a burnt orange Honda Element, from the residence and set it on fire near 68th Avenue and Tamoshanter Way.  Detectives are seeking witnesses that may have seen anyone in the neighborhood driving that vehicle prior to or shortly after the fire was reported at 1:28 p.m. A photo of the make and model of the victim's car that was stolen and recovered is provided below.

The investigation is ongoing and at this time the cause of death and motive for the homicide are not being released.

The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to this crime to contact Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES).  Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information.  Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000
