The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 23-year-old George Everett for entering a home and trying to sexually assault a victim while she slept with her child.
On Thursday, July 9, 2009, at 5:42 a.m., the Police Department responded to an apartment in the 2600 block of Meadowview Road on a sexual assault that had just occurred. The suspect fled on foot from the scene. Officers arrived within minutes and set up a perimeter in an effort to contain the suspect. Using surveillance footage from the apartment complex, officers were able to obtain a good suspect description and possible identity. Shortly thereafter, officers located the suspect running within the perimeter. The suspect, George Everett, was detained and arrested for burglary and attempted sexual assault.
Investigators from the Sacramento Police Department's Sexual Assaults Unit responded to the scene. Based on the information gathered, detectives believe that Everett entered the apartment by unknown means and went into a bedroom where the victim was asleep with her eight-week-old child. Everett then got on top of the victim in an attempt to sexually assault her. The victim fought back and hit Everett with a lamp which prompted him to flee. The victim received minor injuries; the child was uninjured.
