Today, the Sacramento Police Department booked Richard Ramirez into the Sacramento County jail on a murder warrant. Ramirez is believed to have killed 20-year-old Christopher Montejano.
On Sunday, May 24, 2009, at 8:24 p.m., Officers responded to the 3700 block of 18th Avenue regarding the sounds of gun shots. Officers received information that someone had been shot and was put into a vehicle that left the area. We received notification that Montejano had been dropped off at U.C. Davis Medical Center by a friend. Montejano had been shot multiple times and was in critical condition. Christopher Montejano died from his injuries on May 28.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to take over the investigation. Investigators believe that Montejano was at a party on the 3700 block of 18th Avenue when he got into a dispute. The dispute escalated and Montejano was shot multiple times. Ramirez was identified as the shooter. Information was obtained that Ramirez had fled to Arkansas.
On July 16, 2009, Ramirez was arrested by Arkansas State Troopers in Russellville, Arkansas without incident and extradited back to Sacramento on July 28, 2009. A photo of Richard Ramirez is not being released at this time.
