The Sacramento Police Department was informed that we have been awarded $2.5 million dollars from the Department of Justice through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.   

The grant funding is designated for equipment for the Police Department.  We will be using the majority of the funds to upgrade our information technology network infrastructure.  This upgrade will allow future capabilities to be added to our in car computers and camera systems.  The remaining funds will be utilized to upgrade our controlled energy devices and complete our shooting range facility. 

As budgets continue to be impacted, the Sacramento Police Department is grateful to the Department of Justice in helping us maintain a level of excellence that our community has come to expect.  The Department continues to seek grants that will help the organization and community during these trying times. 

The Mayor and Deputy Chief Somers will be holding a press conference today in the media room of City Hall at 3:00 p.m.
