The Sacramento Police Department will be partnering with thousands of other law enforcement officers throughout the United States in the National DUI Campaign "Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest" Crackdown.
This end of summer campaign sends the message that drunk driving won't be tolerated. If you drive drunk, we will be looking for you. If you're over the limit, we will catch and arrest you.
Drunk driving is one of America's deadliest crimes. The Sacramento Police Department will be conducting several DUI and drivers license checkpoints during the campaign to target those who still don't heed the message to designate a sober driver before their first drink is taken. Funding for the checkpoint is through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Law enforcement everywhere is asking for the community's help; if you see a Drunk Driver - Call 911. In addition to this checkpoint, the Sacramento Police Department has asked its officers to focus additional efforts toward removing impaired drivers during the campaign period and everyday they are on patrol.

We will be conducting a sobriety and drivers license checkpoint on Friday, August 28, 2009, in the Downtown area of the City. We will also be conducting another sobriety and drivers license checkpoint on Saturday, August 29, 2009 in the North area of the City.
Please direct any inquiries to Sergeant David Hargadon at (916) 808-6069. Media is encouraged to attend the checkpoint in an effort to spread awareness about the impacts of drinking and driving.
