On Thursday, August 27, 2009, at 5:07 p.m., officers from the Sacramento Police Department responded to the area of Fruitridge Road and 62nd Street regarding a vehicle collision. Officers arrived and discovered that one of the vehicles involved (a white van) had flipped over causing the female driver's death.
The Sacramento Police Department's Major Collision Unit responded and took over the investigation. Investigators believe that the white van and a red pick-up truck were traveling westbound Fruitridge Road. Both vehicles were driving recklessly and at speeds unsafe for traffic conditions. As they approached 62nd Street, the white van collided with a car that was stopped at that intersection's red light. The collision caused the driver of the van to loose control and flip over. The driver of the van was partially ejected and suffered major injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The decedent has been identified as 31-year-old Renee A. Hines of Sacramento.
As the investigation progressed, investigators determined that reckless driving on the part of the white van was a main contributing factor that led to the collision. They also learned that the van had been reported stolen out of Sacramento. At the time of the collision, Renee Hines was driving on a suspended license and had an active misdemeanor no-bail warrant.
Witness statements indicate that the driver of the red pick-up may know the victim. There are many details surrounding this incident that are still unknown. Investigators urge the driver of the red pick-up to come forward and help them piece together the events that lead to the crash.
The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to this collision to call Detective Anderson at 808-3776. You can remain anonymous.
