The Sacramento Police Department is proud to announce the swearing in of 10 new officers who will soon be patrolling the streets of Sacramento. The ceremony will occur on September 25, 2009, 11:00 a.m., at 5770 Freeport Boulevard.
The new officers are a result of a federal grant awarded to the Police Department that allows the hiring of 35 new officers. The Recovery Act Funding to Support Law Enforcement granted the Police Department $9,554,860 in July. The Police Department will be hiring more officers in the upcoming year.
Prior to hiring the new officers, the Department was down 105 officers and 114 civilians. The new officers are a mixture of people who have already put themselves through the Sacramento Police Academy and former Sacramento Sheriff Deputies.
The Sacramento Police Department is grateful to our leaders in government including Congresswoman Doris Matsui and Mayor Kevin Johnson and for their continued support of the Sacramento Police Department. We would also like to thank the U.S. Department of Justice for selecting our department to receive this much needed funding.
