The Sacramento Police Department, in partnership with the Sacramento City Unified and Robla School Districts, has been awarded $463,699 from the Secure Our Schools Grant. The grant is provided through the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.
This grant will allow for the purchase of cameras, lighting, and door hardware for eight schools to provide a safer learning environment. "We are in tough economic times and are grateful that we have received several grants to help make our schools and community safer," said Chief Rick Braziel. The Secure Our School Grant funding requires the school districts to match the funds being provided.
The Sacramento Unified School District will receive $221,182 of the grant funding. The funding will be used towards increasing security for Luther Burbank and Hiram Johnson High Schools. "We are grateful for the partnership we've forged with the Sacramento Police Department and their assistance in securing additional funding for our schools. This grant enables us to increase the safety at our schools by improving our monitoring equipment and security on our campuses," said Superintendent Jonathan Raymond.
The Robla School District will receive $242,517 of the grant funding. The funding will be used towards increasing security for the Robla Preschool and the Bell Avenue, Glenwood, Main Avenue, Robla, and Taylor Street Elementary Schools.
