The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 20-year-old Nicholas Newsome for the murder of David Blanks.
On October 24, 2009, at 1:52 a.m., the Police Department was notified by a security guard that someone had been shot in the parking lot of the 3600 block of N. Freeway Boulevard. Officers arrived and located David Blanks who had been fatally shot.
Homicide and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene. During the course of the investigation information was developed that indicated the homicide may have been gang related. Gang detectives were called in to assist with the investigation. Detectives determined that the victim was leaving a night club and walking to his car when he was contacted by a group of subjects. Gang related words were exchanged and one of the subjects shot and killed the victim. Detectives obtained information that indicated Nicholas Newsome committed the homicide.
On October 25, 2009, at 11:08 p.m., Gang detectives located Nicholas Newsome inside a movie theater (1700 block of Arden Way). Newsome was taken into custody without incident and later booked into the Sacramento County Jail. A booking photo of the suspect is not being released at this time.
