On Sunday, November 15, 2009, at 1:19 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department received a call from a father asking for a welfare check on his two young kids. His 7-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter had just been picked-up from his residence by his estranged wife (mother of the children). At 1:50 a.m., the father called back with additional information that led him to believe his wife may have killed their 3-year-old daughter.
Units responded to an apartment on the 7300 block of Greenhaven Drive (mother's residence) and located the 3-year-old child who was unresponsive. Officer initiated CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived and took over. The child was transported to UC Davis Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The 7-year-old boy was located unharmed.
The Sacramento Police Department's Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to investigate. Based on their preliminary investigation, detectives believe the victim may have been drowned and that her mother, 31-year-old Anul Ram, was responsible for the death. This investigation is on-going and a motive for this crime has yet to be determined. Anul Ram was arrested for murder and later booked into the county jail. A booking photo is attached.
