The Sacramento Police Department is proud to be a part of this year's Martin Luther King Jr. march and celebration on January 18, 2010. The celebration will begin with a community march which starts at two separate locations before converging and ending at the Sacramento Convention Center. The Police Department would like to inform the public of rolling street closures and traffic impacts as a result of the march.
The south area march will depart from the Oak Park community Center, 3425 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, at 8:30 a.m. and travel to a second meeting point at Sacramento City College, 3835 Freeport Boulevard. Marchers will travel the following route:
south of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
turning west on 12th Avenue continuing where the street becomes Sutterville Road
and enter the south side of Sacramento City College where they will meet additional marchers
they will then continue west on 13thAvenue
north on Land Park Drive which turns into 16th Street
marchers will turn west of P Street
north on 10th Street
east on K Street (vehicles and bands following will turn east on J Street)
The north area march is scheduled to leave from Grant High School, 1400 Grand Avenue, at 9:00 a.m. The marchers will travel the following route:
east on Grand Avenue
south on Marysville Boulevard continuing where the street becomes Del Paso Boulevard
marchers will continue south over Highway 160 where the street becomes 12th Street
east on K Street (vehicle and bands following will turn east on J Street)
The march will conclude at J and 13th Street with an outdoor rally. The intersection of J at 13th Street will be closed from approximately 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Drivers should expect delays on J Street due to the closure at 13th Street.
