The Sacramento Police Department is investigating another incident of the "Bait and Switch" scam.
On February 10, 2010, at 11:10 a.m., in the parking lot of the 1400 block of Meadowview Rd., the suspect approached the citizen. The suspect stated he was trying to donate money to local churches and requested the citizen's assistance. The suspect offered to pay the citizen for his help. He told the citizen he wanted to donate $100,000 to the church and if the citizen helped him do that, he would give the citizen $30,000. Another suspect approached offering to help as well. The first suspect needed the citizen and the second suspect to demonstrate their "good faith" by showing some money of their own. The second suspect leaves and returns with what appears to be cash. The citizen believes this to be legitimate and provides his own "good faith" cash. Ultimately, the "Bait and Switch" occurs and the suspect steals the victim's "good faith" cash and flees the scene.
The suspect is described as a male Black, late 40's, 5'10", with a slight build. He had short black hair and no facial hair. He was wearing a tan cap, a tan jacket and green cotton pants. The second suspect is a male Black, late 60's, 5'6", with a stocky build and short black hair. He was also wearing a cap, tan jacket and tan pants.
The Sacramento Police Department cautions citizens to be very careful who they give money to. Donations should be made only to known and reputable organizations. Make every effort to verify the organization before making a donation and be wary when approached for large cash donations with the promise of compensation for assistance.
