Off-Duty Officer Arrested For Brandishing

The Sacramento Police Department arrested a police officer for brandishing a firearm while off- duty.

On January 27, 2010, at 12:08 a.m., the Police Department responded to 9th and J Street regarding a subject who brandished a gun.  During the course of the investigation, officers discovered that the suspect was an off-duty Sacramento police officer.  The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Brandon Mullock.  He has been a police officer for two years.

The Police Department immediately launched a concurrent criminal and administrative investigation.  Mullock was placed on administrative leave.  Detectives believe that Mullock, while off-duty, became involved in an argument with a subject who had been following him.  After the argument, Mullock walked away.  As he walked away, he was overheard by a third party making a racial slur.  The third party questioned Mullock on his remark, at which time he displayed a holstered gun.

The completed criminal investigation was presented to the District Attorney's Office for review.  A misdemeanor warrant for brandishing a firearm was issued for Mullock's arrest.  On March 3, 2010, detectives arrested Mullock on the warrant.  Further details of the incident are not being discussed at this time due to the ongoing administrative investigation.

"The Sacramento Police Department takes this matter very seriously. We hold our officers to the highest standards on and off-duty.  We understand that an off-duty incident of this nature reflects negatively of the good men and women in law enforcement.  This event is not reflective of the dedicated officers that serve our community every day," said Chief Rick Braziel.
