The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 34-year-old Ignacio Bulahan for the 2004 murder of Thyotis Jackson.
On May 19, 2004, at 12:37 a.m., officers responded to a subject found lying face down near 1st Avenue and Broadway. Officers found that the subject was stabbed and had his throat cut. The victim was later identified as 22-year-old Thyotis Jackson.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded. During the initial investigation, detectives believed that Jackson was working as a male prostitute, dressed like a female, when he got into a dispute with an unknown subject. The investigation stalled until 2009 when a witness came forward with information prompting detectives to move forward on the case. The investigation led to the identity of Ignacio Bulahan as the suspect. Later, forensic evidence was processed that supported this lead. Based on the investigation, detectives believe that Bulahan murdered the victim, although it is still unclear what the motive was for the crime.
On April 16, 2010, detectives arrested Ignacio Bulahan for murder at his residence in the 3500 block of 1st Avenue without incident.
