The Sacramento Police and Fire Department have partnered to bring a drivers training course to the general public called "I Drive Safe."
On May 8, 2010, I Drive Safe (IDS) will begin its first drivers training class. IDS classes will be taught by driving instructors from the Police and Fire Department. The students will go through an eight hour class teaching them defensive driving, high speed braking, accident avoidance, controlling a vehicle on wet roads using our skid pan, and precision driving at low speeds (parallel parking, backing). Each class will hold 8 students who will be given 1-2 hours of classroom lecture covering laws, rules of the road, videos and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training. The classes are held at 3905 Alert Road in Sacramento, California. Through this program, we hope to offer skills to drivers that will make for safer roads in our community.
The IDS program offers the following courses:
New Driver - Designed for a new driver to develop skills that will help a person to become a safer and more defensive driver. Classes offered on Saturdays from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. Cost $275.
