The Sacramento Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Xavier Gallegos
On May 8, 2010, at 7:48 p.m., officers responded to Dixieanne Avenue and Oakmont Street on a large fight with two people who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found a male Hispanic 21-years-old who died at the scene and a male Hispanic 19-years-old who had been shot and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The victim who died at the scene was later identified as Xavier Gallegos.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene. Based on the investigation, detectives believe that the victims got into an argument with a group of subjects who were attending a party at a hall on Del Paso Boulevard. The argument escalated, turned physical, and continued onto Dixieanne Avenue where someone shot the victims. Detectives obtained evidence and information that led to the identity of 20-year-old Douglas Rivas as being the suspect who shot Gallegos.
On May 14, 2010, at 9:15 a.m., detectives arrested Rivas at his home in the 3300 block of Horseshoe Drive for murder and attempted murder. Detectives believe that this homicide was gang related.
No photo of the suspect is being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
