The Sacramento Police Department is proud to announce the graduation of the Grant High School's Criminal Justice Magnet Academy.  The graduation will take place Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at 6:30 p.m., in the Grant High School's auditorium.

This year, an academy graduate, 17-year-old Gerardo Gonzalez, will be receiving the Chief's Highest Honor Award as well as a special recognition from Assemblyman Dave Jones and the California State Legislature.

Gerardo Gonzalez is being recognized because of his service and commitment to his family, the community and to himself.  Gerardo entered the Magnet Academy as a 9^th grader and since, has excelled not only in academics but in positive service to the community.

The Criminal Justice Magnet Academy is a four-year program structured as a school within a school.  The curriculum focuses on law enforcement studies and it incorporates related academic classes.  Students who enter the academy agree to perform at a high standard.  They are required to perform 50 hours of community service per year, maintain a specific grooming standard, wear a provided academy uniform once a week, and represent the academy in a positive manner at all times. 

The Sacramento Police Department has had great success with the Magnet Academy program.  The vast majority of graduating seniors move on to college immediately after graduation, and several students from the program have obtained jobs within the police department.  Gerardo has been accepted to the California State University, Sacramento, where he will attend in the fall.
