The Sacramento Police Department conducted a DUI campaign from May 21, 2010 through June 20, 2010. During that time, not one graduate died in a traffic accident. In fact, there were zero fatal traffic accidents in the City of Sacramento.
During the campaign, four DUI checkpoints were conducted, with an additional four saturation patrols. A total of 151 DUI arrests were made during this time period. Only two arrests were made of 17-18 year olds. Over 3700 cars were contacted at checkpoints and were given educational material.
The purpose of the DUI operations is to remove DUI drivers from our streets and to educate the driving public of the dangers associated with drinking and driving or driving while under the influence of drugs. Funding for these operations is provided by a grant from OTS, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
These operations are proving successful; however, the Sacramento Police Department wants to remind everyone to drink responsibly and use designated drivers. Working together, we can get our graduates through a safe and healthy summer. The community is encouraged to call 911 to report drunk drivers.
