The Sacramento Police Department shot an armed 37-year-old male in the leg who was involved in a domestic dispute.

On June 26, 2010, at 3:38 a.m., officers responded to the 3400 block of Lumley Lane on a domestic disturbance between a male and his spouse.  The suspect was throwing things in the house, threatening his wife, and shot his gun at the ceiling.  As officers arrived, they contacted people leaving the house telling them that the suspect was armed with a gun and threatening to kill people if allowed back into the house.  Officers went to the house and saw a male standing at the door armed with a gun.  The suspect did not follow orders given by the officers to drop the gun.  The suspect then turned to walk back into the house forcing the officer to shoot the suspect before he could hurt others still inside.  The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.  The nine occupants of the house were not injured.

The suspect was transported to an area hospital with non -life threatening injuries.  The investigation is ongoing to determine the applicable criminal charges the suspect will face. 

As a matter of policy, the officer involved (a six year veterans of the Sacramento Police Department) will be placed on paid administrative leave.  In accordance with Sacramento Police Department's policy and procedures, the Sacramento Police Department's Homicide, Internal Affairs, Professional Standards, and Crime Scene Investigations Units will work with the City of Sacramento's Office of Public Safety Accountability and the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
