The Sacramento Police Department is seeking the community's help to determine how a boater was critically injured while on the Sacramento River north of Old Sacramento.
On July 20, 2010, officers responded to an area hospital regarding a 51-year-old man who was injured while on his boat. Upon arrival, the officer spoke to family members and determined that the victim had sustained serious head injuries. Family indicated that the victim went fishing on Sunday. The family became concerned when the victim failed to come home. On Monday, the victim's son went to the river and found his father injured on his boat. The Fire Department responded and transported the victim to an area hospital.
Based on the investigation, officers believe that the victim's boat was anchored in the middle of the Sacramento River north of Old Sacramento. The victim's boat had front end damage consistent with being hit by another boat. Officers believe the victim's boat was facing north and if a collision occurred the other involved boat would have been traveling southbound along the Sacramento River. The victim may have received his injuries as a result of a collision. Officer would like to speak with any boaters that may have been in the area late Sunday through Monday morning.
