The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 49-year-old Anthony Bettanini for killing his roommate.
On August 23, 2010, at 1:42 a.m., officers responded to a small apartment complex in the 3700 block of Norwood Avenue regarding a possible dead body. It was reported that Bettanini arrived at his apartment and found his roommate bleeding and suffering from apparent injuries. Bettanini then asked a neighbor to call police. Officers responded and located the victim laying on the floor of the apartment. The victim was bleeding heavily and had obvious signs of injuries, possibly caused by blunt force trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Bettanini was located nearby and detained.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to investigate. Detectives learned that the victim and Bettanini were roommates and have lived in the apartment for the past three to four months. Based on the evidence and information gathered, detectives believe Bettanini and the victim were involved in an argument that escalated to physical violence. At one point during the altercation, Bettanini inflicted blunt force trauma to the victim. The victim died as a result of those injuries. The victim, a man in his early 50’s, is not being identified at this time pending notification of his family.
Anthony Bettanini was transported to the Sacramento County Jail where he was booked for murder.
