Sacramento Police Department's homicide detectives are asking for the public's help identifying a murder suspect.
On September 12, 2010, at 12:13 a.m., officers were patrolling the area of J Street near 18th Street as hundreds of young adults were in the area loitering. While in the area, officers heard numerous gun shots being fired. As the large crowd began to disperse, officers found four victims on J Street between 18th and 19th Streets. Three victims (two men and one female, all in their 20's) were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The fourth victim, identified as 24-year-old Victor Hugo Perez Zavala died at the scene.
Homicide and Crime Scene Investigators responded. Based on the investigation thus far, detectives believe the shooting was preceded by an exchange of words between two groups of gang members. During the dispute, a man associated with one of the groups pulled out a gun and fired multiple times at the opposing group. As a result of the gun fire, one of the opposing gang members was shot with non-life threatening injuries. The other three victims, including the decedent, were uninvolved with the dispute.
The shooter is described as a male Black, 18-21 years old, 5"11" to 6'0" tall, 180-200 pounds, with shoulder length dreadlocks. He was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans
