The Sacramento Police Department is pleased to announce that the Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) and the Natomas Unified School District (NUSD) will be opening their attendance centers on Monday, September 27, 2010.
The purpose of the attendance centers is to provide truancy prevention and intervention services to at risk students. School truancy is one of several patterns of behavior known to increase the likelihood of youth delinquency, and is proven to have an adverse effect on student learning.
Students who are found to be truant are brought into the attendance centers to meet with a family advocate who reviews their records and determine the underlying cause of the truancy. The student's family may also be contacted and asked to become part of the solution. Other experts are brought in to assist, as needed. A goal of the attendance centers is to ensure students complete their education and avoid delinquent behavior.
