Domestic violence occurs among people of all races, ages, socio-economic classes, religious affiliations, occupations, and educational backgrounds. October has been designated as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Women Escaping A Violent Environment (WEAVE) is sponsoring a day of solidarity to remember those who have survived domestic violence. WEAVE provides crisis intervention services to women, men, and children in Sacramento County who have experienced domestic violence. On October 25, 2010, the community is encouraged to wear the color purple in support of those individuals impacted by domestic violence. Another organization working to end domestic violence is My Sister's House. My Sister's House is a non-profit organization that specifically identifies and addresses the unique needs of women and children impacted by domestic violence. On Saturday, November 6, 2010, at 8 a.m., they will sponsor their annual 5K fun run/walk. Many Sacramento Police Department employees will participate in this event.
