The Sacramento Police Department has arrested four suspects responsible for the 2009 murder of Donald Kirby.
On Thursday, November 12, 2009, at 8:16 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 3300 block of V Street regarding a shooting. Officers arrived and located the victim, 47-year-old Donald Kirby, lying on the floor of his apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. Kirby was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sacramento Police Department's Homicide and Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to scene. Based on information obtained during the investigation, detectives believe that 23-year-old Elias Garcia, 22-year-old Christopher Merrill, 24-year-old Roman Hooker, and 21-year-old Calvin Holmes went to the victim's apartment to rob him of marijuana and other property. It is believed that during the attempt robbery Elias Garcia shot and killed the victim.
On November 11, 2010, detectives arrested Elias Garcia at police headquarters. Roman Hooker was arrested at his residence in the 3000 block of Bell Street. Calvin Holmes was located and arrested in the 2900 block of S. Meadows Place. Christopher Merrill was already in custody for a parole violation since September. All suspects were taken into custody without incident and charged with murder, attempt robbery, and burglary.
