The Sacramento Police Department arrested 20-year-old Johnathan Mendivil and 18-year-old Jeremy Mendivil for the murder of a 15-year-old boy on New Year's Eve.
On Friday, December 31, 2010, at 9:54 p.m., officers responded to the 7400 block of 29th Street on a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 15-year-old male, who had been shot. The Sacramento Fire Department responded and declared the victim deceased.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene. Based on the investigation, detectives believe that Johnathan and Jeremy Mendivil had gone looking for the victim as retribution for a prior assault. Detectives believe that the Mendivil's were driving in the area when they observed and recognized the victim as one of three subjects who had assaulted Johnathan Mendivil on December 18th. It is believed that the Mendivil brothers confronted the 15-year-old victim when one of them shot and killed him.
On January 1, 2011, Johnathan Mendivil was arrested for unrelated charges. On January 2, 2011, detectives arrested Johnathan and Jeremy Mendivil for murder.
Photos of the suspects are not being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
