The Sacramento Police Department is investigating the shooting of a 29-year-old male that began as a disturbance.
On January 5, 2011, at approximately 12:50 a.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of Canterbury Road on a disturbance occurring at a hotel. Officers arrived finding a broken window in a hotel room with a 29-year-old male inside that had been shot and killed. The subject who shot the male was detained at the scene.
Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene. Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe that the 29-year-old deceased had gotten intoxicated and into a fight with a friend. A neighboring hotel resident came out, broke up the fight, and then headed back to his room. A short time later, detectives believe that the 29-year-old deceased came down to the room where the neighbor who intervened was staying, broke out a window, and went inside. The 29-year-old was shot when he entered the neighbor's hotel room.
The investigation is still ongoing and no arrest has been made. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
