The Sacramento Police Department would like to remind the community to be careful with personal financial information after finding suspects using stolen credit card information to purchase washers and dryers in Sacramento. 

In September 2010, detectives were notified by Whirlpool Corporation that they had had an increase of washers and dryers being delivered to the Sacramento area with fraudulent credit card information. 

On October 7, 2010, a detective went undercover and posed as a delivery driver to a residence near Highfield Circle and Manorside Drive where a washer and dryer were purchased using stolen credit card information.  During that delivery, it was determined that a 26-year-old female Asian was the suspect.  She was later arrested for identity theft. 

On November 3, 2010, a detective went undercover again and posed as delivery driver to a residence near 24^th Street and 50^th Avenue.  In this instance, a 27-year-old male Asian posed as a person who had his credit card information stolen.  The male had the undercover officer leave the washer and dryer on the driveway at the house.  The male was stopped and arrested  for identity theft. 

It was later determined that the suspects in the two cases knew each other.  Follow-up searches of the suspects' residences revealed approximately 500 names and credit card information for various potential victims across the United States.  The Sacramento Police Department is still attempting to notify those individuals to check their credit reports for identity theft. 

Both suspects have already been convicted for the identity theft charges.

This case is a reminder for people to try and protect your personal financial information, monitor your financial statements for accuracy, and to check on your credit report yearly.
