The Criminal Justice Magnet Schools Academy is hosting its 5th annual CSI Sacramento competition this Saturday, January 8, 2011, at McClatchy High School, located at 3066 Freeport Boulevard, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

The competition is between each of the 4 magnet high schools: Kennedy, Grant, Hiram Johnson and McClatchy. Cadets from each of the academies will utilize their academy training in police tactics and crime scene investigation to investigate a scenario based homicide. 

The scenario itself is taken from an actual homicide that occurred in Sacramento. The students will be judged on their ability to analyze and effectively apply fundamental police practices to solve a complex crime.

There will be a total of 32 high school students participating in the competition with help from volunteers and law enforcement officers.  Each member from the top three winning teams will be rewarded for their accomplishment with the championship team trophy going to the first place winner.

All of these students are enrolled in the Sacramento Police Departments Criminal Justice Magnet School Academy in partnership with the Sacramento City Unified School District. The Criminal Justice Magnet Academy is a four-year program structured as a school within a school.  The curriculum focuses on law enforcement studies and it incorporates related academic classes.
