The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 21-year-old Daniel Foalima for the murder of 50-year-old Arun Singh.
On August 7, 2010, at 2:46 a.m., the Sacramento Fire Department responded to the 900 block of North Avenue on an apartment fire. Fire personnel discovered a deceased male inside the apartment. Due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, the Fire Department called the police department for assistance.
Homicide detectives, Crime Scene Investigators, and Fire Arson Investigators responded to the scene. Detectives observed that the victim had been assaulted and dismembered. The suspect was believed to have attempted to burn the apartment before fleeing but the apartment's sprinkler system activated and prevented the fire from spreading. Based on information obtained through a Crime Alert Tip, detectives were able to identify Daniel Foalima as a possible suspect.
Based on the investigation, detectives believe that Daniel Foalima was attempting to rob the victim when he murdered him. Detectives believe that Foalima dismembered and attempted to burn the apartment in order to conceal evidence of the crime.
Foalima was already in custody on a parole violation and was arrested on the murder charge today.
