The Sacramento Police Department arrested three suspects for the murder of a 20-year-old male.

On January 19, 2011, at approximately 4:39 p.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Carmel Avenue on a shooting.  Officers found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body.  The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Witnesses told officers that the suspect vehicle was a dark colored Ford Explorer.  Officers tried to stop a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle near Del Paso Road and Northgate Boulevard.  The vehicle did not stop and a pursuit ensued.  The vehicle crashed into five cars when it tried to turn northbound onto Natomas Boulevard from Del Paso Road.  The three occupants of the vehicle ran but were caught and detained.  Officers received information that a gun was tossed from the Ford Explorer.  That gun was recovered and taken as evidence. 

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene.  Based on the investigation, detectives believe the victim was driving with several friends and as he was pulling into the driveway of a house subjects from another vehicle began shooting at them.  During that confrontation, the victim was shot and crashed into the garage of the house. 

The subjects detained from the Ford Explorer were 21-year-old Jesse Cornejo, a 17-year-old male Hispanic, and a 16-year-old male Hispanic.  Based on the evidence found, detectives believe that all three subjects were in a vehicle that pulled up and shot at the victims.  Based on the investigation, all three suspects were taken into custody for murder.  It is unclear at this time what motivated the shooting.

Detectives have additional follow up investigation to complete and as such no booking photo of the adult suspect will be released at this time.
