The Sacramento Police Department is seeking the community's help in locating a missing 9 MM handgun used in a homicide.
On January 19, 2011, at approximately 4:39 p.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Carmel Avenue on a shooting. Officers found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later died. The suspects fled the scene in a dark colored Ford Explorer. Officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle near Del Paso Road and Northgate Boulevard. The vehicle did not stop and a pursuit ensued. The suspects ultimately crashed their vehicle and were taken into custody.
Witnesses told officers that the suspects threw two guns from the vehicle during the pursuit. Officers located one of the guns, but the second gun is still missing. From the investigation, it is believed that a male White subject, driving a white Toyota Camry found the 9 MM handgun on Striker Avenue between Northgate Boulevard and Kenmar Drive. This man may have picked up the gun for safekeeping. Investigators are hopeful that surveillance video will help in identifying the man and his vehicle. However, he is being urged to turn in the weapon and can do so anonymously. He can call (916) 264-5471 and arrangements can be made for law enforcement to pick up the weapon without him identifying himself.
The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to this crime to contact Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
