The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 43-year-old Fred Nelson for a probation violation after he threatened Mayor Kevin Johnson.
On January, 26, 2011, at 8:36 a.m., the Mayor was attending a meeting at 10th and J Street when a subject approached him. The subject, later identified as Fred Nelson, told the Mayor that he would be out of office in four hours. The security detail took immediate action, because of the threat to the Mayor's safety, by detaining Nelson.
Detectives responded to assist with the investigation. No further evidence was located at Nelson's residence to indicate future plans to harm the Mayor. Based on his prior history of violence, Nelson was arrested on a probation violation.
