The Sacramento Police Department has arrested two suspects in the killing of 19-year-old Rashad Alexander.
On March 12, 2011, at approximately 12:46 a.m., officers responded to the 3200 block of Northgate Boulevard on a call of gun shots heard in the area. Officers arrived and found victim Alexander shot. The Sacramento Fire Department responded and declared Alexander deceased at the scene.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene. During the investigation, detectives discovered another male subject had been brought to the hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds but is expected to survive. Detectives determined that the male in the hospital had sustained his injuries while at the scene of the Northgate homicide. Further information was developed that led to the identity of 29-year-old Arlonzo Banks and 19-year-old Herbert Alvarez Jr. as the suspects responsible for the killing of Rashad Alexander. Detectives believe that the suspects confronted the victim while he was in the parking lot of a neighborhood bar. During the confrontation, Alexander was shot and killed. Investigators believe that the incident was gang involved.
On March 31, 2011, Homicide detectives and the Career Criminal Apprehension Team along with the assistance of Contra Costa County Sheriff Office were able to arrest the two suspects without incident.
Photos of the suspects are not being released at this time due to follow up investigation that detectives must still conduct.
