The Sacramento Police Department is seeking the community's help to locate the suspect(s) responsible for the theft of a backhoe and an attempt burglary to an ATM.
On Monday, March 21, 2011, at 4:16 a.m., officers responded to an alarm activation at an ATM located in the 1900 block of Arden Way. Upon arrival, they discovered the suspect(s) were gone but their mode of transportation had been left behind, a large backhoe.
The investigation revealed that the backhoe had been stolen from a construction project at 7th Street and North B Street, sometime during the night. The suspect(s) drove the backhoe north on the bike trail to the 1900 block of Arden Way, where they repeatedly struck the ATM with the backhoe. The suspect(s) were unable to gain access to the contents of the machine. However, they did cause significant damage to the building. Ultimately, they fled the scene. Detectives are hoping that someone saw something and will come forward with information about this crime.
