From April 9, 2011 through April 15, 2011, the Sacramento Police Department will be recognizing National Dispatchers' Week. The annual recognition was established in 1992 by President George Bush to honor dispatchers nationwide who provide vital emergency services in their communities.
Since 1881, Sacramento Police Dispatchers have been answering calls for help from our community. In 2010, dispatchers answered 505,168 calls that came into our communications center. Approximately 181,140 of those calls came in via 9-1-1.
Their hard work and dedication deserves recognition not just during this special week but throughout the year. "Dispatchers are the unsung heroes and often times the first contact our community has with the police department in an emergency. They do amazing work in a very stressful job", said Chief Rick Braziel.
