The Sacramento Police Department has had numerous sexual assault cases resulting in convictions with significant time given to the suspect.
You may be surprised when you look at www.crimereports.com and see the number of sex offenders registered in the City of Sacramento. A small group of detectives work to investigate the sexual assaults that unfortunately happen frequently. Recently, several cases that detectives investigated resulted in convictions. "The hard work of the Sexual Assault Detectives, coupled with the diligence from the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, has resulted in numerous suspects being taken out of our community with some significant prison time. The end result is that we have a safer community," said Detective Sergeant Bruce Dubke.
The following are some noteworthy cases:
Shane Wilson- Sentenced to 400 years to life. In 2008-2009, Wilson had kidnapped two prostitutes near Stockton Boulevard and Broadway, drove them up to his home in Pollack Pines, and raped them. Based on information obtained by one of the victims and forensic evidence detectives were able to determine Wilson as the suspect.
Odis Williams- Sentenced to 32 years to life. In 2009, Williams was found to have been sexually assaulting his daughters, step-daughters, and friend over a 15-year period. Williams was featured on America's Most Wanted and was later found within 15 minutes at a homeless shelter in Texas.
Albert Povadora- Sentenced to 332 years to life. In 2008, Povadora was investigated for impersonating an officer while raping and sodomizing several prostitutes. After his arrest, he was further linked through forensic evidence to a stranger rape in 2007 and a burglary sexual assault that occurred in Fairfield in 1998
Aaron Montgomery- Sentenced to 150 years to life. In 2009, Montgomery met two separate victims and lured them to his house near San Jose Way and Broadway. Montgomery gave the victims drugs and then raped them. Detectives were able to identify Montgomery when officers working in North Sacramento thought he matched the suspect description on the sexual assaults and then found evidence that linked him to both crimes.
Domingo Vargas- Sentenced to 46 years to life. In 2009, Vargas assaulted and raped a victim downtown. That same year, Vargas attempted to rape a woman in her car near Del Paso Boulevard. Detectives were able to link Vargas through forensic evidence.
