Murder Arrest in 1999 Incident

The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 28-year-old Demarcus Mason for murder.

On January 22, 1999, the victim 16-year-old Christopher Thompson was assaulted during a robbery attempt on the campus of Kennedy High School.  During the robbery attempt, suspect Mason assaulted the victim causing him to fall.  As the victim fell, he hit his head on the ground, and possibly some lockers, resulting in severe bleeding to his head.  Suspect Mason then kicked the victim multiple times as he lay on the ground.  The victim was transported to the hospital and later survived his injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Demarcus Mason was arrested for attempt murder and attempt robbery. Mason was later convicted of attempt second degree robbery involving great bodily injury.  A second suspect was also arrested and convicted for assisting in the robbery attempt by arranging the meeting between Mason and the victim. 

On February 4, 2010, at approx. 8:37 p.m., victim Christopher Thompson died.  The Sacramento County Coroner's Office determined that the cause of death was related to the blunt force head injuries sustained during the robbery in 1999.

On May 12, 2011, the Sacramento Police Department's Homicide Cold Case Unit obtained a murder arrest warrant for Demarcus Mason.

On May 16, 2011, the Sacramento Police Department requested the assistance from the Stockton Police Department in locating and arresting suspect Demarcus Mason for a murder warrant. Suspect Mason was later booked into the San Joaquin County Jail.
